FERRO at European Ocean Days 2025

FERRO at European Ocean Days 2025

FERRO participated in European Ocean Days 2025, held from 3 to 7 March 2025 in Brussels, Belgium. The event brought together policymakers, researchers, project representatives and stakeholders from across Europe to discuss progress and future directions under the Mission Ocean and Waters framework, with a strong focus on regional engagement and cross-sectoral cooperation.

Tallent Dadi (UFZ), FERRO’s coordinator, represented the project at the event and presented a poster outlining the project’s work on lake restoration. The poster explained FERRO’s approach to addressing nutrient pollution by developing solutions for nutrient removal, recovery and reuse. It also highlighted how these activities contribute to improving the ecological condition of freshwater ecosystems and support the broader objectives of the Mission Ocean and Waters initiative. The poster session created a valuable space for discussion with researchers, policymakers and representatives of other projects, allowing participants to exchange experiences and explore potential areas for collaboration.

Tallent Dadi also took part in the panel discussion during Session 6, “Mission Ocean and Waters: Supporting Regional Engagement and Cooperation through Area-Based Lighthouses.” The session focused on the role of lighthouse regions as demonstration areas where innovative solutions for water and ecosystem restoration can be tested and showcased. Discussions also addressed how these regions can strengthen cooperation among stakeholders, encourage knowledge exchange and support the wider implementation of successful approaches across Europe.

FERRO’s participation underlined its commitment to contributing to the Mission’s objectives and to strengthening cooperation across European freshwater and marine communities.
